Cricket Betting Promotions Australia vs South Africa

Australia vs South Africa cricket betting

For the first time in a long time, Australian betting agencies didn’t field bonus promotions on the home Test Match series. When last time South Africa toured Australia in 2012, bookmaker sites were awash with betting specials for the 3 Test series, and we featured them all on this very page. Even last summer, when New Zealand and the West Indies toured Australia, there were promotions available on each of the Test matches.

The lack of promotions for the South Africa series is in stark contrast to the bookmaker promotions that are available on the domestic Big Bash competition. This season’s T20 tournament features bonus betting specials from no less than six licensed Australian betting agencies.

Is Test Match cricket on the nose?

It’s fair to assume that the move from bookmakers not to field promotions on the Australia vs South Africa series reflects the wagering appetite of the Australian public. If the betting agencies really thought they could entice members to bet, they would have offered them some incentives by way of bonus promotions. Aside from betting on an exchange like Betfair, betting on Test cricket is obviously deemed no longer popular. This is despite the early success of day / night Test matches. In contrast, pundits expect wagering on the Big Bash League to top last year’s estimated $3 billion dollars.

Will the Ashes attract betting interest?

Next season, Australia plays host to traditional archrival England, in the battle for the Ashes. The five Test series always garners far more interest than matches against other international rivals. It remains to be seen whether or not bookmakers will field promotion specials on the Ashes, or whether they believe Test cricket no longer appeals to sports bettors. Only time will tell.
