Sportsbet bonuses and review
The Sportsbet brand is synonymous with sports betting in Australia. From humble beginnings, the former Darwin based bookmaking operation grew steadily under the stewardship of Matthew Tripp before being bought out by Paddy Power in 2011. Despite ownership changes behind the scenes, Sportsbet has always offered great value to its members.

Sportsbet are recommended as a betting provider for a variety reasons. Chief amongst those is the array of bonus bets and promotions they offer to existing customers. Their sign up bonus for eligible customers is at the higher end of the scale in terms of gross dollar amount, but it's not as valuable as Neds sign up bonus bet. However, eligible members will revel in the supply of regular sports betting promotions, and it is these offers that particularly appeal to their loyal membership. Barely an event goes by where Sportsbet doesn't offer a promotion, whether it be on the NRL State of Origin series, or the Big Bash cricket, there's always something to pique one's interest. Other top betting operators do compete with Sportsbet on this front, however, they remain the market leader in this space.
Other membership features include: free tipping competitions, a horse racing black book service, the use of Power Payout, cash card. The member promotions alone are reason enough to open an account with Sportsbet.

Products and promotions
Sportsbet bonus bet promotions
As highlighted in our review, it's the regular bonus bets and promotions that make Sportsbet so appealing to many punters. The free bet offers are usually in the form of refunds for example, if a bet loses but a certain player scores a goal. Or sometimes, if your original bet is successful you'll be rewarded with a bonus bet on a particular market. The bonus bet specials vary from week to week and depending on the event. During the Spring Racing Carnival, Sportsbet steps it up even further, offering great specials on the Melbourne Cup and other feature races. The best way to stay up to date with these specials and all of the offers from Australian bookmakers is via our bookmaker promotions page.
Refer a friend bonus
There are also other bonuses to be enjoyed as a Sportsbet member. If an existing member refers a new customer, the bookmaker will reward the existing customer with a $100 bonus. Not every betting site offers this type of bonus, and not always such a large amount; in comparison, Palmerbet offers a $50 referral bonus.
Sportsbet Power Play
Sportsbet also offers it members the odds boosting Power Play product. The betting option is available on most markets and can add an additional 20% in winnings to each successful bet. Similar to William Hill's Price Pump product, there are rules that preclude abuse of the promotion, like using it on the same event or more than once a day.
City Best Plus
City Best Plus is Sportsbet's most appealing bet type. It pays the higher of the starting price (SP) or the best of 3 totes. It's a great deal and ensures you'll get much better odds than simply placing a bet with the TAB. They also offer Top Fluctuation, but do not offer the Best of the Best product that is available with bookmaker.com.au.
The popular Protest Payout is another promotion run by Sportsbet. If your horse is first past the post but loses in a protest - you'll still receive your winnings! The promotion is now run by almost every agency including now Unibet, however, Sportsbet were the first to introduce it to punters.
Other account features
Sportsbet Million Dollar Tipping
Sportsbet runs the popular Million Dollar Tipping competition. Million Dollar Tipping is a free AFL and NRL tipping competition where members can win valuable weekly cash prizes, it is available to all account holders. See our Sportsbet Footy Tipping page for more details. Tipping competitions are scarce amongst betting companies nowadays, CrownBet is the only other bookmaker to run a free AFL tipping competition.
Another service provided by Sportsbet free of charge is their Punters Club. Existing members can register their own Club, then invite friends and colleagues to join. The best part of the service is that it handles all of the administrative tasks associated with running a punting and tipping club. All members will get access to the performance and transactions of their Club.
Sportsbet offer a free cash card to customers that elect to receive one. The card works just the same as an ordinary bank debit card. Members can pay for everyday transactions using winnings or funds from their Sportsbet account. We at Free Bet Review like that it encourages customers to withdraw funds from their account.
